By Peter Heyward
This booklet was produced by the British Union of Fascists to address the concerns of small shopkeepers who were under great threat from the large chain stores which were able to offer lower prices for their goods.
This was due to their great purchasing power which enabled them to purchase in bulk. This was not only said to be unfair competition but it was claimed that once a monopoly position was attained by them – the prices would increase and then shoppers would have no choice of where to buy.
It is suggested in this booklet that small traders should have representation in Government through the corporate system which would regulate trading conditions, employment terms, quality of goods, minimum retail prices, licensing and staff training.
