By The 8th Duke of Northumberland
The Duke was a veteran of the Boer War, and the Sudan and Egyptian campaigns. He was a Captain in the Grenadier Guards, and after service during the Great War he returned to civilian life and became a "Die Hard" (an extreme Right Wing Conservative). In 1922 he launched a weekly newspaper called "The Patriot" whose purpose was to supply "Striking facts relating to movements threatening the safety and welfare of the British Empire."
"The Patriot" warmly supported the British Fascisti (The British Fascists), founded in 1923.
The Duke's most celebrated contributer of articles to his newspaper was Mrs Nesta Webster, who became Britain's leading conspiracy theorist.
Mrs Webster was also a County Commander, (Staff) Women's Units, of the British Fascisti.
