Margaret Bothamley
The transcript of a broadcast from Berlin in English in that was made in an attempt to inform the people of Britain of the real situation in Germany.
Mrs Bothamley was stranded in Germany when the Second World War began. Distressed by the outbreak of war she thought that by speaking on the radio to the people of Britain, she might bring about a greater understanding of the German position, in the hope that a just peace could be secured. After the war she served one year in prison for her wartime actions.
Before the war she had been a contributor to The Duke of Northumberland's newspaper, The Patriot, and she was also a founder member of The Imperial Fascist League which was led by Arnold Leese. She was the London Secretary of The Link which was a group dedicated to friendship with Germany.
