A verbatim report of Mosley's Speech, Earls Court, July, 1939
A report of the great peace rally held in Earls Court in 1939. Said to be the largest indoor political meeting ever held up to that time with an audience of 20,000 people.
Mosley speaks about the threat of war. About how to avoid war and answers those who want war.
It is a detailed speech and shows exactly the attitude of British Union as war approached.
The following is an example:
"When they talk of being the custodians of Empire, let me say this: Australia and New Zealand scarcely dare to ask for money or help, but courted and flattered and fawned upon are the oily Levantines who come as Balkan allies. £60,000,000 was agreed this week for foreign loans to buy useless allies in worthless unnecessary wars. While New Zealand wants money for her simple farming population, while the Newfoundlanders are starving and freezing in conditions which would disgrace the very name of the British Empire, while some of our tropical possessions are sweltering in conditions which are inhuman, starving for lack of assistance, money is poured out in millions to buy allies for their Jews' war in Europe".
This excerpt illustrates Mosley's main theme - "Britain First and Mind Britain's Business".
